ALVA, Okla. – A 30-point third quarter allowed SWOSU to break open a close game and pull away for a 79-59 rivalry victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday evening at Percefull Fieldhouse.
SWOSU started the game slow offensively before five straight points to end the first quarter got the Dawgs within one, 13-12, after one. Shooting picked up in the second quarter as SWOSU hit 7-of-15 field goal attempts and three three-pointers to take a 36-35 lead at the break. The intensity picked up at both ends for the Lady Bulldogs, who roared out of the locker room and hit 8-of-12 field goal attempts to double up Northwestern in the quarter and build a 66-50 lead before pushing ahead for the 20-point win.
Makyra Tramble led the way for SWOSU with 24 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals while
Lauren Ramey (11),
Taber Beer (10) and
Maddie Sperle (10) also reached double figures in scoring.
Bethany Franks pulled down a team-high rebounds while Beer dished out five assists on a night when the Lady Bulldogs connected on 18-of-20 free throw attempts for a season-high 90% shooting at the stripe.
The victory is SWOSU's second straight and it improves the Lady Bulldogs to 16-7 on the year and 11-6 in conference play, which has them tied for fourth in the league standings with five games to play. Next up for the Lady Bulldogs is a trip to Bethany on Saturday to meet Southern Nazarene.
