MAGNOLIA, Ark. – SWOSU committed 18 turnovers and matched their season-low scoring total as Southern Arkansas defeated the 21st-ranked Lady Bulldogs 67-61 at W.T Watson Center in Magnolia.
 
A slow start saw the Lady Dawgs connect on just two field goals in the first quarter while SAU built an 18-9 lead at the end of the period. The teams tied in the second and fourth quarters with 17 points apiece while SWOSU outscored the Muleriders 18-15 in the third, but it was not enough as the Lady Bulldogs suffered their second conference loss of the season.
 
SWOSU led just once in the game at 3-2 following a three-pointer from Tyra Aska two minutes into the game. The Lady Dawgs would play behind the rest of the way, getting as close as two, 50-48, early in the fourth quarter before SAU answered with a 7-0 run to regain control. SWOSU's final push got to within four points in the closing seconds, but the Muleriders added two free throws to finish off the game at 67-61.
 
Makyra Tramble came off the bench to score 19 points for the second consecutive game, while also totaling six rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and two steals. Taber Beer was the only other Lady Bulldog in double figures, finishing with 12 points and two assists. Bethany Franks had a team-high nine rebounds and four steals while Tyra Aska had six steals and six rebounds to go along with nine points.
 
SWOSU, now 9-3 on the year and 4-2 in Great American Conference play, is set to play their next four games inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center in Weatherford, beginning next Thursday evening against Ouachita.
