WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Men's Basketball was unable to complete the season sweep of Southern Arkansas after falling to the Muleriders 65-63 on Thursday evening at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center in Weatherford.
The Bulldogs led by as many as 12 points in the first half and they had three double-digit leads in the second half, but they were unable to hold off the Muleriders, who shot 48.4% from the field in the second half while knocking down four three-pointers to come from behind for the win.
Damion Thornton hit two free throws with 2:36 to play, tying the score at 55-all, but SAU answered with a 6-1 run to lead by six in the closing seconds, before SWOSU got a last-second three from
Marquis Johnson to close the gap.
Thornton and Johnson led the offensive attack for the Bulldogs, combining for 27 points while Thornton posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Jaylan Williams knocked down three three-pointers while
Kamden Gipson and
Chris Braggs, Jr., had seven points apiece.
SWOSU falls to 9-10 on the year and 5-8 in league play with the loss and they'll return to action on Saturday at 3:00 pm against Arkansas-Monticello.
