WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The second half of Thursday night's rivalry doubleheader against Northwestern saw the SWOSU Men's Basketball team never trail as they picked up a 75-69 victory over the Rangers inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
The game was tied twice in the early going before SWOSU scored 10 straight points to take a 15-5 lead and they never looked back, building a lead as high as 20 before taking a 47-30 lead at the break. Northwestern would mount a push in the second half, using a 13-0 run to get within six and eventually getting as close as four on two occasions late in the game. SWOSU would hit their final four free throws of the game and finished things off with a six-point win.
SWOSU was led by
Damion Thornton with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists while
Jaylan Williams (12) and
Marquis Johnson (10) also reached double figures in scoring. Ten different players scored for the Bulldogs while seven different Dawgs knocked down a three-pointer in the contest.
The Bulldogs move back over the .500 mark with the win and they'll take a record of 8-7 (4-5 GAC) into Saturday's showdown with Southeastern Oklahoma State, one of two teams currently tied atop the conference standings.
