WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Lady Bulldog Basketball team used a 27-13 scoring advantage in the third quarter to turn a two-point halftime lead into an insurmountable advantage as they raced past Henderson State 84-66 on Saturday afternoon at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
The teams were tied at 15-all after the first quarter and SWOSU had a slight edge of 36-34 at the break before the Lady Bulldogs hit 9-23 field goal attempts and four three-pointers in the third to extend the lead to 63-47 with 10 minutes to play. SWOSU held HSU to 3-14 shooting in the third and 6-13 in the fourth while not allowing a made three-pointer in the second half. The Lady Dawgs, conversely, heated up from the outside and knocked down 7-16 attempts from long range after halftime.
Five different players reached double figures for SWOSU, with
Taber Beer leading the way by scoring a career-high 20 points.
Maddie Sperle added 15 points and seven rebounds,
Makyra Tramble had 11 pointsn and
Tyra Aska and
Taylor Hedrick chipped in with 10 points apiece.
Maddy North also recorded a career-high with nine points in 13 minutes of action off the bench.
With the win, SWOSU improves to 11-3 on the year and 6-2 in Great American Conference play. The Lady Dawgs also remain unbeaten at home – moving to 5-0 – while extending their home-court winning streak to 37 consecutive games, which they'll take into a rivalry matchup with Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday evening at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
