Bulldogs Finish Strong to Claim Friday Split at Harding

SEARCY, Ark. – SWOSU Baseball bounced back from a series-opening defeat at Harding and got a shutout victory in the night cap of a Friday doubleheader at Jerry Moore Field in Searcy.

SWOSU (16-17, 12-11 GAC) will conclude the series at Harding on Saturday with the series finale beginning at noon.

Harding 9, SWOSU 2
Box Score

A two-run single off the bat of Sawyer Toole put the Bulldogs up 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but it was all Harding after that as the Bisons scored in each of the first five innings to take command of the contest. SWOSU managed just three hits over the final eight innings and left three on base in the contest while Harding scored their nine runs on 15 hits.

Dakota Jones (1-1) was the pitcher of record after allowing seven runs – five earned – on 10 hits in 3.0 innings before Jose Laboy and Chase Hamilton logged the final five innings on the hill.

SWOSU 4, Harding 0
Box Score

A solo home run by Tanner Long with one out in the fourth innings jumpstarted the Bulldogs offense and led to four runs over the next two innings on Friday evening. After Long's homer, Chase Duncan doubled and scored on an RBI single from Jacob Grady, making it 2-0 after four. An RBI triple from Alex Bedard, following by an RBI double from Rafael Villela put the Dawgs up 4-0 in the fifth, which is where the score would stay.

The reason the Bisons stayed off the board on Friday night was the pitching of SWOSU's Tyler Tuck (5-2), who allowed just three hits and struck out three in the seven-inning contest to get the win.
