SHAWNEE, Okla. – A five-run first inning put SWOSU Baseball in position to pick up a non-conference victory on Tuesday evening in Shawnee, but the Bison answered with the next 15 runs before finishing off a 17-7 victory in the seventh inning.
Despite just one hit in the inning, SWOSU was able to put five runs on the board in the top of the first inning, getting an RBI groundout from
Rafael Villela followed by three bases-loaded walks and a run scored on a wild pitch to lead 5-0 after one-half inning. From that point, it was all OBU as the Bison scored three runs in the first and one in the second to get back within one before exploding for seven runs on four hits in the third to take their first lead.
OBU extended the lead with our runs in the bottom of the fourth and added solo runs in the sixth and the seventh to invoke the 10-run rule in the bottom of the seventh. In the fifth, SWOSU scored on another bases-loaded walk before getting a solo home run from
Tanner Long in the bottom of the sixth for the final run of the game.
The loss snaps a three-game win streak by the Bulldogs and drops them to 15-16 on the year. SWOSU heads to Searcy, Ark., this weekend for a three-game series at Harding on Friday-Saturday.
