BETHANY, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball opened their weekend series at Southern Nazarene by defeating the Crimson Storm twice, the first a run-rule victory and the second by one run in a low-scoring contest.
The Bulldogs (20-21, 16-13 GAC) will wrap up the series at SNU on Saturday with a single game beginning at noon in Bethany.
SWOSU 14, SNU 3 (8 inn.)
The Bulldogs scored three or more runs in four different innings before they invoked the 10-run rule at the conclusion of the eighth inning. SWOSU scored three runs in the third, four in the fifth, four in the seventh and three in the eighth to earn the victory.
SWOSU had 13 hits in the game, including doubles from
Tanner Long,
Chase Duncan and
Jacob Grady along with a three-run home run by
Sawyer Toole that provided the Dawgs enough of an advantage to end the game one inning early.
Cooper Cantwell (6-4) was strong on the mound, allowing seven hits and three runs with five strikeouts in a complete-game effort to earn the victory.
SWOSU 2, SNU 1
Sawyer Toole scored both of SWOSU's runs in the second game, first with his second home run of the day in the second inning before he scored on an RBI single from
Alex Bedard in the fourth to put the Dawgs up 2-0. That would be all the cushion that
Tyler Tuck (7-2) would need as he tossed a complete game, allowing seven hits and keeping the Crimson Storm off the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh inning.
SWOSU managed just five hits in the game, led by a 2-for-3 effort from Toole, who had a double and home run while
Alex Pimentel added a double for the Dawgs only other extra-base hit in the game.
