Softball Sweeps OBU, Extending Win Streak to Eight

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Bulldog Softball extended the longest active winning streak in the Great American Conference to eight straight games with a pair of victories over Oklahoma Baptist on Monday in Shawnee.
 
With the wins, SWOSU improves to 19-26 on the year while moving into a share of fifth place in the GAC standings at 18-18 in league play. Next up for the Bulldogs is a four-game home series against Southern Nazarene, which takes place this weekend at the Athletic Complex in Weatherford.

The Bulldogs scored 10 unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings to overcome an early 1-0 deficit and invoke the eight-run rule at the conclusion of the fifth for the win. SWOSU sent 13 batters to the plate in the fourth inning and scored eight runs on eight hits while also taking advantage of three OBU errors to break the game open. In the inning, Sidney Kirk had a solo home run while Kaytlin Donaldson, Amanda Moreno and Hannah Morris had RBI hits.
 
Allyson Gafford added a two-run home run in the top of the fifth, bringing home Keanni Barron, who reached with a leadoff double in the inning. All nine players in the lineup recorded a hit in the game, with Samantha Householder and Gafford finishing with two apiece to give SWOSU 11 total hits for the game.
 
Alisa Friesen (10-10) picked up her third win of the series after allowing one run on seven hits in a complete-game effort.

The second game followed a somewhat similar script, with SWOSU falling behind 1-0 in the third inning before erupting for four runs in the fourth and three in the seventh to put the game and the series away. Trailing 1-0, SWOSU got a two-run double from Amanda Moreno and another RBI double by Allyson Gafford to open up a 4-1 lead in the fourth.
 
Oklahoma Baptist got one run back in the fifth inning, but SWOSU put the game away with three runs on four hits in the seventh inning, including an RBI double by Hannah Franklin and an RBI single from Kaytlin Donaldson. Gafford finished the game 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI while Moreno was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
 
Alisa Friesen (11-10) finished off her four-for-four series with the victory after holding the Lady Bison to one run on three hits over the first 3.2 innings of action. Miranda Grover took over in the circle in the fourth inning and allowed two runs on three hits over the final 3.1 innings to earn her second save of the season.
