Baseball Prevails over USAO in Extra Innings

CHICKASHA, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball defeated University Science & Arts 9-6 after going into an extra-inning on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs were able to put up 10 hits on the offensive end while only committing one error on defense.
 
SWOSU first got on the board with a ground out to short by Rafael Villela, which allowed Alex Bedard to bring a run in. In the top of the third, Kannon McCune hit a double to left center which positioned him to score a run off a sacrifice fly hit by Bedard.
 
During the fourth inning, Sawyer Toole, Brady Burtner, and Chris Cloud scored off a trio of consecutive USAO pitching errors. This gave the Bulldogs a 5-4 lead which remained until the top of the eighth inning where Alex Pimentel brought in Brady Burtner with an RBI single.
 
USAO scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth, forcing action play to enter an extra inning. The Bulldogs clinched the victory after putting up three runs in the top of the tenth which went unanswered. Tanner Long hit a double to down the left field line, scoring Bedard before Braden Estraca scored a run off a single through left side by Chase Duncan. Robert Perea hit a single to left center to bring home Duncan as the final run of the game. USAO was unable to respond, giving the Bulldogs a 9-6 victory.
 
Trent Lewallen started off pitching for SWOSU, however, there was five different pitching line-up changes. All six pitchers combined for eleven strikeouts with both Gabe Jacobo and Dakota Jones throwing three apiece.
 
SWOSU (9-8) returns back to action on Friday for the first of the three-game series at Magnolia, Ark. which concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday.
