RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Bulldog Softball left a conference series without a victory for the first time this season after Arkansas Tech claimed all four games the two teams played this weekend in Russellville.
SWOSU (11-24, 10-16 GAC) returns to action next Friday-Saturday (April 5-6) with a four-game series in Weatherford against Harding.
Game 1 (Friday): ATU 7, SWOSU 1
SWOSU scored their lone run in the top of the first inning, getting two of their three hits in the game and an RBI single from
Hannah Morris to get on the board. From that point, it was all ATU as the Golden Suns scored in five different innings, including a four-run fifth to put the game away.
Kaytlin Donaldson (5-11) pitched a complete game, allowing seven runs on 11 hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Game 2 (Friday): ATU 5, SWOSU 4
Arkansas Tech scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to keep the Dawgs from claiming a split of the first doubleheader. A two-run home run by
Hannah Franklin put SWOSU up 4-2 in the top of the sixth inning, but ATU rallied for three runs on two hits in the seventh to get the walkoff victory.
Alisa Friesen (4-8) was the pitcher of record after allowing five runs on eight hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Game 3 (Saturday): ATU 14, SWOSU 9
The highest-scoring game of the series saw SWOSU allow 21 hits and 14 runs to offset a strong offensive performance that included home runs by
Amanda Moreno and
Samantha Householder. ATU scored six runs in the first and two in the second, then finished the game off with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.
Moreno finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI while Householder was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three batted in. Donaldson (5-10) was chased in the second inning and
Miranda Grover tossed the final five innings.
Game 4 (Saturday): ATU 6, SWOSU 5
SWOSU was again in position for a doubleheader split, leading by one run in the bottom of the seventh when Arkansas Tech hit a two-run walkoff home run to end the series. A solo home run by Moreno put SWOSU up 5-4 in the top of the seventh, but a leadoff double followed by a two-run shot from ATU's Sarah Coronado pushed ATU to victory.
Friesen (4-9) allowed six runs on eight hits and took the loss.
