Baseball Sweeps Weekend Series with Arkansas Tech

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Bulldog Baseball swept a three-game series against Arkansas Tech this weekend, going 3-0 while allowing just five runs to be scored in all three games combined. Saturday's doubleheader was a complete shut out with the Wonder Boys unable to put a run up on the board.
 
SWOSU jumps to 15-15 on the year and 11-10 in Great American Conference play after being untouched this weekend. The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, April 2, for a single nonconference game against Oklahoma Baptist.
 
Game 1 (Friday): SWOSU 7, Arkansas Tech 5

The Bulldogs jumped to an early lead in the first inning of the game scoring two quick runs. To start the scoring off, both Alex Bedard and Alex Pimentel hit singles to get on base. Bedard advanced home on a wild pitch to score the first run, while Pimentel was able to convert a point off Chase Duncan's RBI sac fly.
 
The Wonder Boys tried to take the game away scoring four of their five points in the top of the eighth, however the Bulldogs were able to answer right back. To get the bats rolling in this inning, Chase Duncan hit a double to right side which positioned him to score in the first run of the inning. Brady Burtner then hit a double RBI to deep right advancing Toole to the home plate. An RBI single over the shortstop's head by Kannon McCune allowed Burtner to bring a run. Pimentel finished out the inning hitting a line drive up the left side to earn him a triple and two RBI.
 
Batting for the Bulldogs guaranteed a victory over Arkansas Tech with seven different players earning hits, led by Kannon McCune who was able to put up four hits by himself. Bedard, Pimentel, and Burtner were able to add two hits apiece, while Pimentel also put up two RBI and Burtner earned one RBI.
 
Pitching for SWOSU was led by Dakota Jones. Jones pitched 6.2 innings, in which he earned four strikeouts, giving up only five hits and two walks with no scored runs. Haden Branch and Jesse lee finished the game out with one inning pitched apiece.
 
Game 2 (Saturday): SWOSU 10, ATU 0 (7 inn.)

SWOSU Baseball took control of the first game of the double header on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs are able to finish the game two innings early while committing the 10-run rule by the end of the seventh. SWOSU was able to put up 13 hits scoring 10 runs on the offensive end while committing no errors on defense.
 
The Bulldogs came out swinging in the first inning scoring 7 of the 10 runs. Tanner Long's deep hit earned him a double while advancing Bedard and Pimentel across the home plate. Kannon McCune hit a ball to left field to add two more RBI to the inning. Alex Bedard came to the batting box to start the line up over in the inning, hitting a sac fly to score the seventh run by Perea.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, Long was able to put the game away hitting a line drive up the right side to allow Chris Cloud to score the final run of the game.
 
Pitching for SWOSU came solely from Cooper Cantwell who pitched all seven innings. Cantwell held Arkansas Tech to only four hits with no runs scored, while adding three strikeouts.
 
Game 3 (Saturday): SWOSU 2, ATU 0

The Bulldogs capture win number three over Arkansas Tech in the second game of the doubleheader. SWOSU's offense and defense combined to earn eight hits with two errors to help lead the Bulldogs to the 2-0 victory.
 
Batting for SWOSU was led by Pimentel who had three hits combined with one RBI. To get the Bulldogs the early lead, Pimentel doubled up the center line followed by Chase Duncan, who had almost an identical play, to bring Pimentel home to score the first of two runs. In the second inning, Pimentel earned a base hit bringing in Perea for the second and final run of the game.
 
Tyler Tuck was the lone pitcher for the Dawgs in the third game of the series, throwing all seven innings and improving his record on the season to 4-2. Tuck allowed only five hits off 26 at-bats, while striking out two batters and allowing no runs to be scored.
