Tarleton State Takes Two from Bulldog Softball

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The visitors from Tarleton State took both ends of a non-conference softball doubleheader on Wednesday, defeating SWOSU by scores of 6-2 and 15-7 (6 inn.) at the Athletic Complex in Weatherford.

SWOSU (8-17) now faces a quick turnaround as they'll host Henderson State on Thursday and Friday in a four-game Great American Conference series which has been moved up one day to accommodate for potential inclement weather.

Game 1: Tarleton State 6, SWOSU 2
Box Score (html)

Each team scored once in the first inning, but Tarleton broke the game open with five runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Keanni Barron started a rally with a one-out triple in the fourth and Tarleton walked the bases loaded before she scored on a wild pitch, but a groundout limited SWOSU to just one run in the inning.  The Bulldogs were held to one hit over the final three innings as TSU held on for the first victory.

Samantha Householder went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead SWOSU offensively while Alisa Friesen (1-7) took the loss after allowing six runs on six hits in 4.0 innings of action.

Game 2: Tarleton State 15, SWOSU 7 (6 inn.)
Box Score (html)

Tarleton scored in all six innings, putting a combined 11 runs on the board in the final three innings to invoke the run-rule. SWOSU jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning, getting a two-run triple from Householder and other RBI hits from Barron and Kaytlin Donaldson, but Tarleton got the game tied in the third inning and took control with a six-run fourth inning.

SWOSU tried to keep pace, scoring twice in the fifth inning but another big inning in the sixth allowed Tarleton to push the game to the verge of run-rule and they closed it out after recording the final out with two SWOSU runners in scoring position.

Hannah Franklin was 2-for-3 with three runs scored while Householder was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Donaldson (5-8) was roughed up for four runs on six hits in the first 2.1 innings.
