RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Three SWOSU players recorded a double-double and five scored in double figures as the #10/5-ranked Lady Bulldogs defeated Arkansas Tech 84-68 on Saturday afternoon at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.
With the victory, SWOSU improves to 27-1 on the year while also becoming the first women's basketball team in Great American Conference history to complete the conference schedule unbeaten at 22-0. With their 27th victory of the season, the Lady Bulldogs also set a new NCAA era single-season school record for wins, surpassing the 26 wins they totaled last season.
SWOSU led for most of the game, trailing for just 32 seconds in the early going before finishing the first quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 24-16 lead after one period. The Lady Dawgs briefly ran the lead to double figures early in the second, but ATU had a response to get within three before SWOSU led 40-34 at the break. The Lady Bulldogs scored 22 points in both the third and fourth quarters, adding to their lead in each as they pulled away for the victory.
Two areas where the Lady Dawgs had significant advantages on the stat sheet were points in the paint, where they outscored ATU 46-30, and points off turnovers, which SWOSU dominated 22-4. They recorded 13 steals while forcing Tech into 19 turnovers while SWOSU committed just seven turnovers on the day.
Hayden Priddy was the leading scorer for SWOSU with 18 points in addition to five steals, three rebounds and two assists.
Tyra Aska (16 points, 11 rebounds),
Hailey Tucker (17 points, 10 rebounds) and
Bethany Franks (12 points, 10 rebounds) each closed out the regular season with a double-double, but SWOSU was still outrebounded by ATU 46-to-38.
Maddie Sperle came off the bench to connect on 5-of-9 field goal attempts and scored 13 points for her first double-digit scoring night in the last 10 games.
The Lady Bulldogs now turn their attention to postseason play and the Great American Conference Tournament, which begins on Thursday in Bartlesville. As the top seed, SWOSU has drawn the eighth seed, which will be the rival Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State and that GAC Quarterfinal matchup will tip off at 5:45 pm on Thursday evening at Bruin Fieldhouse.
