Softball Splits High-Scoring Set at Ouachita

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Bulldog Softball and Ouachita each picked up run-rule victories over the other on Friday as the teams opened a four-game Great American Conference series with a doubleheader split.
 
SWOSU (7-14, 6-8 GAC) will conclude the series at Ouachita with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm.

The Tigers scored six runs in the first two innings and never looked back, putting at least one run on the board in five-of-six innings before invoking the run-rule. Miranda Grover (2-2) was roughed up from the get-go, allowing five hits and four runs before being pulled with two outs in the first inning.
 
SWOSU's lone offensive highlights came in the top of the fourth, when Allyson Gafford doubled in to left center, scoring Sidney Kirk and Kaytlin Donaldson to account for both of the Dawgs runs.

SWOSU answered the challenge in the second game and did so from the outset, putting 15 runs on the board in the first two innings while Kaytlin Donaldson tossed a no-hitter in the five-inning run-rule victory.
 
The Bulldogs scored eight runs on six hits in the first, getting RBI hits from Samantha Householder and Kirk along with an RBI groundout from Keanni Barron. The hits kept coming in the second, with seven runs on five hits, including an RBI double from Donaldson and RBI single from Allyson Gafford, Bella Garcia and Keanni Barron. When the dust cleared, SWOSU had a commanding 15-0 lead that was extended with an RBI groundout from Hannah Morris in the fourth.
 
Donaldson (5-6) was equally as dominant in the circle, retiring 16-of-18 batters she faced with two strikeouts as she recorded the first no-hitter of her collegiate career.
