Bulldog Baseball Splits Opening Day of Series with William Jewell

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball played a pair of three-run games on Saturday, splitting their doubleheader against William Jewell to open a three-game set at the Athletic Complex in Weatherford.
 
The two teams will be back in action on Sunday, playing a single game at noon to conclude the series.

William Jewell scored single runs in the first and second innings, but got nothing else off Bulldog starting pitcher Cooper Cantwell, who tossed a complete game in his second start of 2019. Cantwell (1-1) allowed two runs on four hits with six strikeouts in the complete-game effort.
 
SWOSU scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning and single runs in the seventh and eighth innings for insurance as they put away the series opener. Alex Bedard and Alex Pimentel had two hits apiece, with Pimentel adding two RBI and one run scored to lead the offense.

The second game of the day was tied heading into the ninth inning, when William Jewell pushed across three runs on two hits to gain the upper hand and even the series. Each team scored in the first and eighth innings, but WJC led for most of the game until SWOSU tied it up in the seventh.
 
Tyler Tuck started for SWOSU and allowed two runs on seven hits in the first three innings. Dakota Jones steadied the middle innings, allowing one run in five innings but Zeke Dougan (0-1) and Gabe Jacobo were roughed up for three runs in the ninth.
 
Pimentel had two of SWOSU's four hits in the game and both RBI.
