SWOSU Slowed by William Jewell in Series Finale

Box Score (html)

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball was limited to one run on five hits on Sunday afternoon as William Jewell collected a 7-1 victory in the series finale, taking the three-game series by winning the final two games.

The Cardinals jumped on SWOSU from the outset, scoring twice in the top of the second and once in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead through three. Things got out of hand for the Bulldogs in the fifth inning as three walks aided three hits by WJC and led to four runs and a 7-0 lead for the Cardinals.

SWOSU got on the board in the bottom half of the inning after the Dawgs loaded the bases with no outs for Chris Cloud, who came through with a sacrifice fly that scored Jacob Grady from third. Alex Bedard had a hard-hit liner to left get caught and Sawyer Toole grounded out to end that threat.

Jose Laboy (0-1) got the start and lasted 4.1 innings before being replaced by John Laureano, who allowed two hits and two walks to the batters he faced. Tyler Barnett got the Bulldogs out of the fifth-inning jam and allowed two hits over 2.2 innings before Brant Millerborg and Trent Lewallen each pitched a three-up, three-down inning to close out the game.

SWOSU's record is now evened at 3-3 heading into a trip to Edmond on Wednesday evening to face Central Oklahoma.
