WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball opened Great American Conference play on Sunday afternoon by splitting a doubleheader against in-state rival Southeastern Oklahoma State.
With the split, the Bulldogs improve to 2-6 on the year and open GAC play 1-1, and they'll complete the series with Southeastern on Monday with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 am.
Game 1: SE 9, SWOSU 6

Five of Southeastern's nine runs in the opener were unearned as the Savage Storm took advantage three SWOSU errors in the game. SE scored one run in the first and four in the second, taking a 5-2 lead after SWOSU got a two-run single from
Kaytlin Donaldson in the bottom of the first.
SWOSU evened the score at 5-5 with a two-run home run off the bat of
Sidney Kirk in the third inning, but were unable to take the lead as
Bella Garcia was stranded at second to end the inning. Southeastern would reclaim the lead with one run in the fourth before adding three insurance runs in the final two innings. Kirk delivered an RBI single to score
Hannah Morris in the bottom of the seventh, but the game ended with two runners on for SWOSU and the tying run at the plate.
Miranda Grover started the game for SWOSU but was relieved by
Alisa Friesen (0-4) in the bottom of the second inning. Friesen took the loss after allowing four runs on three hits over the final 5.1 innings of play.
Game 2: SWOSU 3, SE 1

SWOSU scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull ahead for the victory in the nightcap after the teams had been tied at 1-1 since the top of the fourth inning.
Amanda Moreno scored the first run of the game on a throwing error by Southeastern in the first inning and it took SE until the fourth inning to answer with an RBI double.
Hannah Franklin led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single and stole second to move into scoring position for
Samantha Householder, who then came through with the biggest hit of the game, an RBI triple down into the right field corner that scored Franklin and put the Dawgs on top.
Kaytlin Donaldson then stepped in and drove a single into left, allowing Householder to score and make it 3-1.
Donaldson (2-1) pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and one run with three strikeouts and three walks.
