Baseball Drops High-Scoring Series Opener at Southeastern

Box Score (html)

DURANT, Okla. – In a game that featured 28 hits and 21 runs scored, it was a hit batter with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth that ended things as Southeastern Oklahoma State defeated SWOSU 11-10 on Sunday afternoon in Durant.

Eight of SWOSU's nine players in the lineup had at least one hit, with Alex Pimentel finishing 3-for-4 while Alex Bedard and Tanner Long also had multi-hit games. Long was 2-for-4 at the play with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored while Sawyer Toole also hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning.

The Bulldogs led 3-0 after a pair of home runs in the first inning, but starter Cooper Cantwell was roughed up for five runs in the bottom of the first as Southeastern took a 3-1 lead. SWOSU scored individual runs in the second and third innings to tie the score before the Savage Storm scored five runs over the next three innings and led 10-7 after the sixth.

SWOSU scored twice in the seventh to get within one run and tied the game on a sac fly from Long that tied Bedard and evened the score at 10-10 in the top of the eighth inning. The Bulldogs left the bases loaded in the eighth without being able to grab the lead.

After getting the first out in the ninth, SWOSU gave up a single before Haden Branch recorded a strikeout for the second out of the inning. The next two batters reached on walks, setting the stage for the walk-off hit by pitch that allowed Southeastern to come away with the victory. Branch (0-1) was charged with the loss after tossing the final inning for the Bulldogs in relief.

SWOSU (6-5, 3-1 GAC) and Southeastern will conclude the series on Monday with a doubleheader beginning at noon in Durant.
