WEATHERFORD, Okla. – For the second straight game, the #25-ranked SWOSU Women's Basketball team used a fourth-quarter comeback to secure a home victory as they defeated Southern Nazarene 72-70 on Saturday afternoon at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed by four at halftime, 36-32, despite falling behind by as many as 15 points midway through the second quarter. SWOSU got within two points once in the third quarter but they wouldn't take the lead until the 6:47 mark of the fourth quarter when
Tyra Aska scored the go-ahead basket that made it 63-61. It would remain a one-possession game until
Makyra Tramble hit at three-pointer with 3:18 to play, putting the Lady Dawgs up by four. SNU got within one possession twice more, the last with a bucket in the closing seconds before SWOSU ran the time out as the Crimson Storm tried to foul.
Bethany Franks was one point off her career-high, totaling 24 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals to help her team outscore SNU by 12 points during her 30 minutes of action.
Maddie Sperle added 13 points while
Makyra Tramble was good for 10 points and six boards off the bench.
With the win, SWOSU improves to 7-2 on the year and 2-1 in Great American Conference play with one game remaining before the holidays. The Lady Bulldogs travel to Shawnee next Saturday (Dec. 14) for a matchup against Oklahoma Baptist.
