ALVA, Okla. – For the second straight week, SWOSU Football was shut out in the second half as Northwestern Oklahoma State came from behind for a 28-16 victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at Ranger Field.
Miscues marred the first half for SWOSU as they had two punts blocked – one for a touchdown – while another was fumbled by punter
Kane Bowen, setting up a short field for the Rangers. SWOSU got a four-yard touchdown run from
Kenny Graham in the first quarter and a 10-yard scoring strike from
Tyler Marr to
Alex Ramirez before a 27-yard field goal by
Ryan Buchanan gave the Dawgs a 16-14 lead at the break.
In the third quarter, SWOSU had three drives of five plays or fewer while Northwestern put together two scoring drives and took the 28-16 lead, which stood up after neither team was able to score in the fourth.
The highlight of the day for SWOSU was the emergence of Graham, who rushed for a career-high 164 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries, helping SWOSU to rush for a season-high 218 yards as a team. SWOSU outgained the Rangers 338-to-274 on the day, including 120 passing yards from
Tyler Marr.
"We didn't come out and execute very well on offense in the second half," SWOSU Head Coach
Chet Pobolish said following the game. "Those mistakes in the first half caught up to us and that really hurt us. I'm proud of our seniors, they played hard and played through some adversity."
SWOSU concludes the 2019 season with a record of 3-8.
