WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Bulldog Volleyball team put together one of their most efficient offensive performances of the season and handily defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State on Tuesday night at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
SWOSU won the match in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-14, 25-15.
Seven different players contributed a kill for the Bulldogs, who totaled 37 kills against just nine hitting errors for a .267 hitting percentage for the match. The Bulldogs had no more than four hitting errors in a set while holding Southeastern into a negative hitting percentage in each of the first two sets, with a final mark of .018.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was the starting middle hitter tandem of
Sofia Gruden and
Elizabeth McVicker, who combined for 15 kills and no hitting errors in the match. Gruden put away nine kills on 15 swings while McVicker added six kills without an error in 14 attempts.
Emily Holm added eight kills with a .300 hitting percentage and
Danusia Sipa Borgeaud had six kills despite.
Reigning Great American Conference Setter of the Week was one dig shy of a double-double with 31 assists and nine digs, while
Klemson Lancaster had a team-high 13 digs and Borgeaud added 12. The game was played relatively clean at the net, with SWOSU totaling two blocks compared to one for the Savage Storm.
"I thought once again we made a really good team struggle tonight by serving tough and keeping them out of system," SWOSU Head Coach
Josh Collins said. "We did a great job on the front row of setting a big block and making them hit around us and our back row did a good job of staying composed, allowing our offense to be very efficient in putting the ball away."
The victory improves the Bulldogs to 11-2 on the year and 4-0 in GAC play heading into a tri-match on Thursday in Shawnee. SWOSU will face Oklahoma Baptist at 3:00 pm before facing off against Arkansas-Fort Smith at 5:00 pm.
