Softball Settles for Series Split with Ouachita

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball was unable to continue its momentum from Sunday's doubleheader into the final day of the Great American Conference series after dropping a pair of games to Ouachita on Monday by scores of 9-1 and 6-2.

Despite the two losses, SWOSU splits the overall series with Ouachita after sweeping the Tigers on Sunday.

The Bulldogs will conclude the regular season at home this Friday and Saturday (April 27-28) against Arkansas Tech where lone senior Rileigh Ricken will be honored on senior weekend.

Game One
Ouachita 9, SWOSU 1
Box Score (html)

On a beautiful Monday afternoon, the Bulldogs started slow in game one after committing six errors and collecting just three hits in seven innings. Meanwhile, Ouachita scored runs in four separate including an initial two-run first inning and a four-run fourth.

The Dawgs got a lone run in the third inning courtesy of an RBI single off of the bat of Amanda Moreno that scored Rileigh Ricken who walked to leadoff the frame.

Ricken (L, 5-15) also pitched in the circle on Monday, throwing all 7.0 innings and striking out three. She allowed nine runs in the game, but only five were earned.

Offensively, Bella Garcia, Allyson Gafford, and Moreno each notched one hit each in the game.

Game Two
Ouachita 6, SWOSU 2
Box Score (html)

SWOSU came alive in game two, doubling their hit total from the day's first game and even leading Ouachita after the third inning.

After the Tigers struck first in the top of the first inning, the Dawgs responded with a run of their own after Sidney Kirk singled in Kinsey Skroh who doubled with two outs. Tied 1-1 in the third inning, Amanda Moreno hit her second home run of the season to left center which put SWOSU out in front 2-1.

The Tigers answered the score in the next half inning and went on to score two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away after SWOSU was held scoreless the rest of the way.

Skroh led the lineup with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate and Moreno's home run highlighted her 1-for-3 performance. Moreno was also SWOSU's only hitter to record a hit in both games on Monday.

Kaytlin Donaldson (L, 1-5) got the start and threw 5.0 innings and allowed five runs – all earned. Miranda Grover came on in relief in the sixth inning and allowed one run in her outing.
