Baseball Win Streak Halted by Riverhawks

Box Score (html)

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Bulldogs were tied with Northeastern State heading into the home half of the sixth inning 9-9, but the Riverhawks scored the game's final five runs to claim the 14-9 midweek victory on a windy Tuesday afternoon. The loss snaps SWOSU's eight game winning streak heading into another home conference series this weekend.

SWOSU found themselves in a shootout, but couldn't keep up with NSU's scoring as the Riverhawks tallied 19 hits in the contest. The Bulldogs plated nine runs in the game on seven hits, but had to take advantage of NSU mistakes to score over half of their runs on the day – scoring four earned and five unearned runs.

After the top half of the fourth inning, SWOSU led 7-3 and looked to be in control of the game before NSU immediately tied the game up in the bottom half with four runs.

Alex Pimentel doubled with one out and the bases loaded trailing 9-7 which tied the game back up again at 9-9 in the sixth inning, but that would be the final scoring effort from the visitors as the Dawgs stranded a pair of runners in the inning and were held scoreless the rest of the way.

Seven pitchers saw action on Tuesday and only Brant Millerborg (1.0 IP) and Brendan Peitsmeyer (1.0 IP) were able to pitch scoreless outings. Jose Laboy got the start on the mound and pitched two innings, allowing three runs while striking out three batters. Brooks Pond, Justin Moreno, Tyler Barnett, and Jesse Lee also made appearances out of the bullpen.

At the plate, Daniel Richardson hit his sixth home run of the season – a two run shot to right field that got the offense going in the second inning. Bryan Miranda, Alex Pimentel, and Brady Burtner all finished 2-for-5 on the afternoon with at least one run batted in.

SWOSU (12-6, 8-1 GAC) returns home to the Athletic Complex this weekend for another three game GAC series against Southeastern. Game one is set for Friday at 2 pm and Saturday's doubleheader will begin at noon.
