MONTICELLO, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and upended the Bulldog Baseball team 6-5 on Saturday afternoon in Monticello.
With the win, UAM sweeps the three-game Great American Conference series, dropping SWOSU to 16-14 (10-8 GAC) on the year. The Bulldogs return to action next Friday and Saturday with a three-game conference series at Southern Nazarene in Bethany.
The Boll Weevils built a 2-0 lead after scoring single runs in the second and third innings, but SWOSU put five on the board in the sixth inning to take control of the game.
Alex Pimentel scored on a wild pitch and
Sawyer Toole drew a bases-loaded walk for the first two runs of the frame.
Jason Nichols then stepped in and hit a two-run single before
Robert Perea knocked an RBI single to left center, scoring Toole to make it 5-2 in favor of the Dawgs.
SWOSU would maintain that lead until the bottom of the seventh, when UAM got their bats going with four runs on four hits, including an RBI double, to take the lead for good.
Brendan Peitsmeyer (2-1) was the pitcher of record for SWOSU, taking the loss after allowing six runs on six hits in 6.1 innings of action with three strikeouts against one walk.
