MONTICELLO, Ark. – SWOSU Baseball played a couple of tight contests with league-leading Arkansas-Monticello on Friday, but it was the Weevils who came out victorious in both games.
The teams will play the final game of the three-game Great American Conference series on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm in Monticello.

UAM plated four runs in the first two innings to take control of the first game. The Boll Weevils got three runs in the first inning after SWOSU starter
Cooper Cantwell walked the first three batters of the game, leading to a two-run single and an RBI groundout in the inning.
Trailing 4-0, the Bulldogs got on the board in the top of the third inning after
Bryan Miranda singled and came across the plate thanks to an RBI double from
Alex Pimentel. The Dawgs added an unearned run in the fourth, making it 4-2 after four complete. UAM got a run back in the fifth and the teams traded runs in the sixth for the final scoring of the contest.
Brooks Benson led off the top of the sixth with a solo home run – his fifth of the season – for the Dawgs final run.

The second game of the day was low-scoring as the teams entered the sixth inning tied at 1-1 and both teams combined for just eight hits. UAM used a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead, which lasted until the third inning as the Dawgs tied it up on an RBI single from
Bryan Miranda that brought
Daniel Richardson in to score.
An unfortunate sequence in the bottom of the sixth allowed UAM to regain the lead. An error by SWOSU got the Weevils a base runner before a two-out single moved the runner over to third base. A wild pitch from
Tyler Tuck allowed the unearned run to score and give UAM a 2-1 advantage. SWOSU got one runner on in the top of the seventh before a double play ended the game.
