Four in Double Figures as Dawgs Fall to ATU

Box Score (html)

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Nick Shoemaker scored a team-high 20 points and was one of four Bulldogs with better than 10 points, but SWOSU was unable to slow the high-scoring Arkansas Tech offense as the Wonder Boys picked up a 90-81 victory on Saturday at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.

Shoemaker led the way for SWOSU with a very efficient afternoon, scoring his 20 points by hitting 7-of-11 field goal attempts, including 6-of-9 three-pointers. In the contest, Shoemaker hit a three-pointer for the 36th consecutive game and surpassed Trent Washington for sixth place on the Bulldogs' NCAA Division II era three-point field goal list with 144 made threes in his career.

Joining Shoemaker in double figures were Devin Pugh, Charles Beauregard, Jr., and Jefkins Agyeman-Budu. Pugh had 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field, but struggled to find his rhythm from long range, hitting just 1-of-5 attempts from long range. Beauregard needed 18 field goal attempts to get his 15 points and also struggled from the outside by missing on all five of his attempts from beyond the arc. The duo also got going in other areas, with Pugh leading the team with nine rebounds and a career-high seven assists while Beauregard grabbed eight boards with three assists. Agyeman-Budu came off the bench to score 12 points in 15 minutes of action – all during the second half.

Statistically, the game was just as it was on the scoreboard with Tech holding slight advantages across the board. The one major difference came on turnovers, with Arkansas Tech turning 10 SWOSU turnovers into 13 points while the Dawgs managed just three points off of six turnovers by ATU.

SWOSU (3-18, 1-14 GAC) will conclude the 2017-18 season with five of their final seven games on the road, beginning next Thursday at Southern Arkansas.
