WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The No. 10/9 ranked Lady Bulldogs knocked down the second most three pointers in school history against Harding on Thursday when they connected on 20 three balls, giving SWOSU a 103-77 rout of the Lady Bisons for their 11th consecutive win.
It was raining inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center as the Lady Dawgs shot 20-for-39 (51.3%) from beyond the arc which included seven different shooters who made a three point shot. Out of the 31 total field goals SWOSU made on the evening, 20 were from past the three point line. Leading the charge was
Savannah Gray who hit 6-of-7 of her attempts (a season scoring high) and
Hailey Tucker who knocked down five first-half treys.
SWOSU used a hot shooting second quarter to build their lead after scoring 36 points in the 10 minute session and outscoring Harding by 16 points. The Lady Bulldogs began the quarter tied with the Lady Bisons 20-20, but took a 16 point, 56-40 lead into the halftime locker room following the solid quarter.
In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs outscored Harding in both quarters to extend the margin even further. The bench gave SWOSU a tremendous lift, scoring 28 second half points collectively and finished the game with 45 total.
Gray was the leading scorer off of the bench, followed by
Taber Beer who scored a season high 11 and
Alexa Harvey who tied her season high of nine points. The trio combined to shoot 11-for-16 (69%) from three point land and contributed 38 points between the three.
Other shooters to connect from beyond the three point line included
Tyra Aska (2-for-3),
Maddie Sperle (1-for-1), and
Hayden Priddy (1-for-2).
Thanks to the efforts of the bench and Tucker's third 29-point scoring performance of the season, SWOSU put up a triple digit score for the first time since February 21, 2015 when the Lady Dawgs downed Henderson State 116-108.
The Lady Dawgs finished the night shooting 46% from the field overall and 51% from beyond the arc. Harding shot 44% themselves, but were swarmed by the SWOSU defense and forced into committing 19 turnovers which hindered their offensive chances.
SWOSU has now won 11 consecutive games dating back to December 7 when they suffered the only loss of the season to now No. 3 Lubbock Christian. The 11-game winning streak is the longest streak in the Lady Dawgs' NCAA Division II era.
Up next for SWOSU (19-1, 14-0 GAC) is a date with the number two team in the GAC, Arkansas Tech on Saturday. Tipoff for that game has been altered and will begin at 11 am with the men's game to follow at 1 pm.
