Softball Salvages Split in Series with Oklahoma Baptist


WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball concluded their Great American Conference series with Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday, earning a split with a pair of games decided by three runs. The Bulldogs and Lady Bison split the four-game series and SWOSU is now 14-24 on the year and 8-20 in GAC play.
 
The Bulldogs will be back at home next weekend for a four-game series against Henderson State.

SWOSU took a 5-2 lead into the seventh inning, but they could not hold off the Lady Bison in the opener as OBU plated six runs in the top of the frame, including a go-ahead grand slam with two outs in the inning.
 
SWOSU had two-hit efforts from Abigail Schade, Bailey King, Sidney Kirk and Tori Hawk, who also scored two runs in the contest. Eight players in the lineup recorded a hit in the contest as SWOSU finished with 12 hits in the game.
 
Rileigh Ricken (1-7) tossed a complete game, allowing 12 hits and eight runs with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Bulldogs seized control early in the second game, scoring 10 runs in the first four innings to grab a 10-2 lead after four complete. OBU scored in each of the final three innings, but the game ended with the tying run at the plate as SWOSU got the final two outs with runners at first and second base.
 
SWOSU pounded out another 13 hits in the series finale, with five players – Samantha Householder, Kenedi Jackson, Taya Haney, Tori Hawk and Sidney Kirk – having two-hit games. Haney hit a grand slam in the first inning and finished with five RBI while Hawk also added a home run as part of a 2-for-4 game with three RBI.
 
Taylor Eaves (4-6) pitched the first 6.0 innings and earned the win after allowing 11 hits and eight runs with three strikeouts. Taya Haney entered the game with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh and retired three straight batters to earn her first save of the season.
