Early Deficit Dooms Bulldogs in Chickasha

Box Score (html)

CHICKASHA, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball gave up nine runs in the first two innings that proved to be too much of a deficit on Tuesday, falling to Science & Arts 10-7. The Dawgs utilized six pitchers in the game, with no arm throwing more than 2.0 innings.

After a two-run first inning for the Drovers, USAO came to bat in the second inning and batted around the entire order utilizing seven hits to score seven runs and open up a 9-0 early lead. From that point, SWOSU tried its best to chip away but the hole dug was just too deep.

Bulldog pitchers would only allow one more run the rest of the way, while the Dawgs went on to score runs in the third, fourth, seventh and eighth innings but could not deliver any two out hits to extend scoring innings.

Rogelio Sanchez hit his third homerun of the season in the seventh inning, a three-run shot that gave life to SWOSU. The following inning, after scoring one run to cut the deficit to three, Josh Santos had runners on the corners with two outs with the opportunity to shrink it even more but struck out looking on a tough strike call to end the threat. Jason Nichols would double to right center in the ninth, but nothing else was doing for the Dawgs in the inning as SWOSU dropped its second-straight midweek contest.

Justin Schander (0-1) started the game and was roughed up by the USAO bats, allowing four runs on four hits including two doubles in his 1.1 innings of work and was charged with the loss. In relief, Stephen Pagendarm couldn't stop the bleeding in the second inning and allowed all of the runners he inherited to score and went on to give up five runs on five hits. Blake Gooden would come in and get all three outs in the second inning and pitched two more outs in the third inning before exiting with no earned runs to his credit. The ball went to Garret Gaunt next, who pitched 2.0 innings one one-run baseball. Justin Moreno and Vincent Berrones would finish the final three innings without conceding a run.

The offense collected nine hits on the evening, led by Daniel Richardson's multi hit game and Sanchez's blast. With two outs in the inning, SWOSU went 0-9 in the contest while the Drovers managed to score three of their runs with two outs.

The Bulldogs (8-10, 4-5 GAC) will travel to Southeastern on Friday to take on the Savage Storm in a Great American Conference three-game series.
