Softball Sweeps Friday Slate Over Southeastern

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball swept both games of the doubleheader against Southeastern on Friday, marking the first time since 2004 the Dawgs have accomplished that feat. The wins move SWOSU back to an even 10-10 on the season and now 4-6 in Great American Conference play.

Saturday's doubleheader to conclude the series has been cancelled due to impending weather threats, so SWOSU will stay perfect against the Savage Storm this regular season. The Bulldogs will welcome the top-ranked Muleriders of Southern Arkansas next Friday and Saturday for another conference four-game series.

Game One
Box Score (html)
SWOSU 7, Southeastern 3

SWOSU and Southeastern traded one run scores to have a 2-2 game until the fifth inning when the Savage Storm delivered a double to score the go-ahead run and take a one-run lead. The next half inning, the Dawgs threatened by loading the bases but failed to push the tying run across.

It was in the sixth inning SWOSU would deliver their best punch. The Bulldogs tied the game up after a Paige Bowler double brought in a pinch running Miranda McDonald. With two outs and bases loaded, Abigail Schade drove a line drive to center field that scored two and give SWOSU a 5-3 lead. Tori Hawk stepped up next and kept the inning alive with another single through the left side and driving in another run. After an error brought in the fifth and final run of the inning, SWOSU found themselves leading 7-3 heading into the last three outs of the game.

Taya Haney went back out in the final inning to collect her second complete game of the season after holding the Savage Storm scoreless, improving to 3-3 in the circle on the season. Her final line was 7.0 innings pitched with three runs (all earned) and three strikeouts. She also stranded 10 SE runners on base in the game, proving to be the difference in the game.

Schade led SWOSU's hitting attack with three hits in the contest, while Hawk had two herself. Cheyenne Trotter also belted her first home run of the season during the game, a solo shot to leadoff the third inning.

Game Two
Box Score (html)
SWOSU 6, Southeastern 3

Early offense allowed SWOSU to score six runs in the game's first two innings, proving to be all the Dawgs would need. After SE jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame, the Bulldogs responded with three runs in the bottom half consisting of a run by Tori Hawk before Miranda West drove a double to right center to score the other two runs of the inning.

The Savage Storm again would tally a single run in the second inning, which was answered with another three-spot on the scoreboard by SWOSU. RBI hits from Abigail Schade and Paige Bowler again gave the Dawgs a 6-2 lead through two full innings. SE would tack on another single run in the third, but Miranda Grover held firm in the circle to pitch scoreless softball the rest of the way.

Grover threw her first complete game of the season, pushing her record to 5-0 on the season.
