Bulldogs Complete Opening Weekend with Sunday Split


DURANT, Okla. – The SWOSU Softball team got a big come-from-behind victory on Sunday morning over Central Missouri in Durant before closing out the Southeastern Regional with a 9-5 defeat against Oklahoma Christian.
 
SWOSU (2-4) is back in action next weekend (Feb. 10-12) in Wichita Falls at the Midwestern State Round Robin, where they will play five games over three days.

SWOSU totaled 13 hits in Saturday's opener, but stranded 11 runners on base before scoring the go-ahead runs in the top of the 7th inning. Central Missouri plated single runs in the second and third innings before SWOSU got on the board in the fifth. Alex Wilson tripled to lead off the inning and scored on an RBI double from Tori Hawk that cut the lead in half.
 
The Bulldogs were down to their final at-bat when they got runners to second and third with two outs and Hawk again came through clutch with a two-run double that gave SWOSU their first lead of the game. Kaytlin Donaldson followed that with an RBI single of her own, bringing Hawk home to put the Dawgs up 4-2. Donaldson then returned to the circle and set the Jennies down in order in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
 
SWOSU totaled 13 hits in the game with Taya Haney, Kenedi Jackson, Paige Bowler, Tori Hawk and Keanni Barron each having multi-hit games. Hawk finished with three RBI and one run scored while Donaldson had the other RBI for the Dawgs and earned the win by pitching a complete-game and allowing five hits and two runs.

Tori Hawk hit a two-run single in the top of the first inning, giving SWOSU an early lead before Oklahoma Christian scored the next eight runs to take control of the game. OC put up five runs in the bottom of the first and added three more in the third before adding their final run in the bottom of the sixth.
 
SWOSU got an unearned run in the fourth and two-more on an RBI single from Samantha Householder in the fifth that made it an 8-4 contest. In their last at-bat, the Dawgs got two runners on but they were both stranded as Oklahoma Christian got a strike out and pop up to end the game.
 
Hawk had another two-hit game, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored, while Angelica Davidson also had two hits and scored once.
 
Taylor Eaves (0-3) got the start in the circle, but lasted just 0.2 innings after allowing five runs on five hits with two walks. Taya Haney pitched the final 5.1 innings in relief and gave up eight hits and four runs, only one of which was earned.
