WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Behind the sounds of DJ LiTEBRiTE and the emotions of Senior Night, SWOSU Volleyball swept rival Northwestern in straight sets 25-21, 25-21 and 25-19 in front of a great crowd. The win sends seniors
DeLayni Fine and
Lindsey McCauley off in fashion in their final match inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
The Dawgs dominated in nearly every statistical category excluding blocks to dismantle the Rangers 3-0 on the night. The defense was especially on display, holding NWOSU to just a .053 hitting percentage through three sets and never allowed them to hit past .089 in a single frame.
SWOSU found itself trailing in the early portions of the first set, but inched back to tie the frame in the middle and finally slowly pulled away to win it 25-21.Winning 22-20, two kills from Danusia Sipa Borguead and another from
DeLayni Fine gave SWOSU three of the final four points to take set one.
Sets two and three were all Bulldogs, who handled the opposition with wider margins. If it weren't for a Northwestern five point run on set point, SWOSU would have ended the second frame sooner. But nonetheless, the Dawgs closed it out courtesy of a well-timed timeout. With NWOSU rallying at 24-21, Coach Collins asked for time. Out of the huddle, the Rangers served it long and the set finally ended. Using the momentum from the first two set victories, SWOSU went on to take set three to claim the match.
Fine ended the night the leader in kills, finishing with 12. Sipa Borgeaud and
Jenny Tackett posted the other double digit point total, each adding 10 to the stat line. Tackett collected hers in efficient fashion, hitting .450 while also coming away with three blocks.
Kaitlyn Dillon dug 20 balls at her libero spot while
Allie Hoang collected 34 assists at setter.
On Dillon's first dig of the night, she broke the single season dig record of 643 set by Sladjana Smiljanic in 2011. Fine also jumped to ninth on SWOSU's all-time kills list.
SWOSU finishes the regular season 13-19 and an even 8-8 in GAC play and will now turn its focus to the postseason tournament. The Bulldogs will either be the No. 7 or 8 seed heading into Hot Springs, Arkansas next week, depending on other results from around the league.
