Bulldogs Triumph over Tigers in Return to Rankin

Box Score (html)

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – In SWOSU Volleyball's first game inside historic Rankin Williams Field House since 2013, the Bulldogs took care of East Central in straight sets (25-21, 29-27, 25-13) to sweep the regular season series against the Tigers.

The offensive attack clicked for a majority of the night, as SWOSU posted a .323 hitting percentage in the match. The Bulldogs found themselves in tight sets through the match's first two frames, but the Dawgs found a way in each instance to come away with the victory.

In the first set, tied 21-21, Allie Hoang stood tall at the net with a huge solo block to give SWOSU the one-point advantage and the Bulldogs wouldn't look back. From there, they would go on to score the final three points of the set and take the first 25-21.

In the second, a resilient SWOSU squad battled off three set points at 24-21 to get the frame back even and eventually forced ECU into extra points. The set was tied at 25-25 and again at 27-27 before a Jenny Tackett kill and a Tiger error would eventually give SWOSU the set-two victory 29-27.

The final 25 points was all Bulldogs, who nearly doubled up East Central in the final frame 25-13. SWOSU hit a match-best .432 to close things out, led by DeLayni Fine who had seven kills.

Fine was the kills leader on the night, finishing with 19 and also added three blocks to her stat line. Her 19 kills ties SWOSU's all-time record for kills in a three-set match. Danusia Sipa Borgeaud was SWOSU's other double-digit kills provider, ending with 13 to her credit. Hoang dished out 41 assists – the most assists she has come away with in a three set match this season. Lindsey McCauley provided three service aces and Kaitlyn Dillon dug 16 balls at libero.

"It was good to see our team show some resiliency in the second set and then we really put the match away in the third, which was good," SWOSU Head Coach Josh Collins said. "I thought our fan support tonight was great, the Return to Rankin brought back some great memories and hopefully made some more for the young women on this team."

SWOSU (12-18, 7-7 GAC) will wrap up the regular season next week with a road game at Southern Nazarene on Tuesday (Nov. 7) before hosting rival Northwestern on Thursday (Nov. 9) back inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
