Soccer’s Second-Half Slump Results in Tie against ECU

Box Score (html)

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer went into the locker room leading 2-0 against East Central on Saturday, but two blunders in the second half allowed the Tigers to score two second-half goals and spoil the Bulldogs chance for the win.

Sandra Nabweteme and Alimata Rabo were SWOSU's goal scorers in the match, netting goals in the 22nd and 43rd minutes.

In the second half, the tables turned and East Central was able to produce a few more opportunities that they were able to take advantage of. In the 54th minute, ECU was fouled in the box on a corner kick and was able to kick home their attempted penalty kick.

Five minutes later, the Tigers got away a shot that seemed to be a routine save for Lexie Bates. The ball managed to slide underneath her hands and through her legs though and dribbled into the back of the net, giving ECU the equalizer.

Through both overtime periods, SWOSU was on the attack nearly the entire 20 minutes but had nothing to show for it on the scoreboard.

The final shot count for the match was 37-9 in favor of SWOSU, including 13-5 on goal.

The Bulldogs are now 7-3-3 on the year and 4-1-3 in GAC play. Next week, SWOSU will be in Arkansas to take on Ouachita (Oct. 19) and Harding (Oct. 21) in more conference action.
