Soccer Tops Ouachita on Thursday

Box Score (html)

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Soccer was victorious on Thursday afternoon in Arkansas, beating Ouachita Baptist 3-1 to sweep the regular-season series against the Tigers for the second-consecutive year.

All three of the Bulldog forwards were on display during the match as Memory Phiri, Alimata Rabo, and Sandra Nabweteme all tallied goals to help the cause.

Phiri, after missing seven of the last eight games due to injury, got the Dawgs on the board early on after an assist from Rabo set her up for the score. SWOSU took a 1-0 lead to the half, outshooting OUA 13-3 and 5-2 on the goal in the process.

Rabo initiated the scoring in the second half, netting a goal just three minutes into the new session that extended SWOSU's margin to 2-0. Nabweteme added to the attack nearly four minutes later, converting on her first penalty kick of the season.

Trailing 3-0, Ouachita was able to get a goal back in the 70th minute. The Tigers avoided the shutout and then managed to put up another score with just seconds on the clock in the final minute to finish the match with a pair of goals to their credit.

Taylor Numbers found herself on the final stat line for the first time in her career, picking up an assist in the 87th minute that allowed Rabo to score her second goal of the match and SWOSU's fourth and final goal on the afternoon.

The Bulldog offense ended the contest outshooting OUA 23-8 and forced Tiger goalie Erin Webster to earn six saves while putting four balls past her. Rabo now has a team-best 18 goals on the season, while Nabweteme got her ninth and Phiri picked up her third of the year.

SWOSU (8-3-3, 5-1-3 GAC) will now set its sights on Harding who handed the Bulldogs its only loss of conference play earlier this season. Game time will be 11 am on Saturday from Searcy, Arkansas.
