Bulldog Volleyball Gets Lost in Lubbock

Box Score (html)

LUBBOCK, Texas – The SWOSU Volleyball team got off to an extremely slow start against Lubbock Christian on Tuesday and they were unable to close out the third set in a 3-0 defeat against the Lady Chaps at the Rip Griffin Center.

SWOSU had a negative hitting percentage with 16 combined hitting errors in each of the first two sets as LCU took a 2-0 lead with set scores of 25-15 and 25-12.

The Bulldogs made some adjustments and had momentum in the third set, building a 21-18 lead late in the set before LCU called a timeout. Following the break, the Lady Chaps scored three straight points, forcing the Dawgs to call for time but that could not stop the momentum as LCU scored seven of the final nine points to end the match at 25-23 in the third set.

Carly Zak led SWOSU offensively with 10 kills, but she had eight attack errors on the night, and finished with a double-double after recording 11 digs on defense. Jill Green stepped up and put down seven kills while hitting at a .222 clip for the match. Kodee Avery had 14 assists – all in the third set – and five digs while Paige Holt recorded a team-best five blocks as SWOSU had eight for the match.

The defeat drops SWOSU to 1-5 on the year and the Dawgs have 10 days to regroup before returning to action on September 16-17 at the GAC / MIAA Crossover in Edmond and Shawnee.
