WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball scored a combined 27 runs on 25 hits in a doubleheader against Ouachita on Saturday, but they had to settle for a split after the Tigers pulled off a come-from-behind victory in game one of the day.
The two teams split the four-game conference series and SWOSU is now 15-29 on the year and 13-21 in GAC play with 10 games remaining in the regular season. The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, heading to Alva for a midweek doubleheader against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
Ouachita 13, SWOSU 12Box Score SWOSU scored five runs in the second inning and at least one run in each of the next four innings, but it was not enough to hold of Ouachita, who put 12 runs on the board in the final four innings.
Taya Haney,
Tori Hawk and
Taylor Eaves each hit home runs and the trio accounted for nine RBI in the contest.
Four different pitchers saw time in the circle for SWOSU, with Eaves getting the start and lasting 4.0 innings before giving way to
Rileigh Ricken for the fifth,
Larie Amos for the sixth and Haney for the seventh frame. Haney (5-12) took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in the seventh inning as Ouachita scored the go-ahead run.
SWOSU 15, Ouachita 7 (6 inn.)Box Score The Bulldogs were held scoreless in just one inning, the second, and they plated 12 runs in the final three frames to earn the victory by run-rule in the sixth inning.
SWOSU trailed 6-3 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, but
Ashley Jones led off the inning with a home run and
Samantha Perry added her first home run of the season, a three-run shot to right center that gave the Bulldogs a 7-4 lead.
Miranda West added an RBI triple and
Tori Hawk hit an RBI double to help SWOSU put up seven runs in the inning and take control of the contest.
Four more runs were put on the scoreboard in the fifth as SWOSU neared the run rule. Perry had an RBI single and
Emily Garcia came through with an RBI double before
Taya Haney and
Miranda West each had sacrifice fly's that made it 14-7 after the fifth. SWOSU needed just one run to end the game in the sixth and they got just that after
Samantha Householder singled up the middle, scoring
Miranda McDonald for the walk off.
Larie Amos and
Taylor Eaves combined to pitch in the contest, but it was Eaves (6-8) picking up the win after allowing two runs in four hits in the final three innings.
