Dawgs Split Saturday at Ouachita, Win Series 2-1


WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball earned a split with Ouachita on Saturday in Arkadelphia, which is all they needed to win the Great American Conference series 2-1. The Bulldogs improve to 23-12 on the year and 14-7 in GAC play with three league series' remaining on the schedule.
 
SWOSU is back in action on Tuesday, when they host Cameron at 2:00 pm for 'Pack the Park' at the Athletic Complex.

The Tigers scored four runs in the second inning and led throughout as they won the Saturday opener by a score of 6-4. SWOSU got two runs on the board in the fifth and two more in the ninth, but they left 10 runners on base for the game, including two at the conclusion of the game.
 
Joshua Santos, Zach Barton and CJ Faddis had two hits apiece while Korbin Polston had three RBI, including a two-run double in the fifth frame. Gunnar Cook (6-3) started but took the loss after allowing five runs – four earned – on six hits in 4.1 innings of work.

SWOSU built a 5-2 lead in the fourth, but had to fight off rally attempts from the Tigers in the final innings. Ouachita got within one after scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth and they loaded the bases in the sixth before Bulldog closer Quinton Dougherty came in and got a strikeout to end the inning. Dougherty then worked a perfect seventh inning to pick up his second save.
 
Barton hit an RBI single in the first to give SWOSU the lead, but Ouachita answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 2-1. The Dawgs scored the next three runs, getting an RBI single from Santos and a bases-loaded walk of Jacob Spring to go up 3-2 in the second despite leaving the bases loaded. Tanner Dearman hit a sac fly in the third to score Joel Baxley and make it 4-2 and Polston sent out a solo home run in the fourth to up that lead to 5-2.
 
Devin Ring (4-3) got the victory after allowing four runs on seven hits in 4.0 innings of work. Jeremy Smith allowed just one hit, but had two walks in 1.2 innings before Dougherty faced just four batters and recorded the final four outs, including two on strikeouts.
