WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball hit seven home runs on Friday afternoon as they hosted Ouachita Baptist, but the Bulldogs settled for a split of the conference doubleheader. SWOSU (14-28, 12-20) will again host the Tigers on Saturday at noon with two games remaining to decide the series.
SWOSU 13, Ouachita 5 (5 inn.)Box Score SWOSU hits five home runs as part of a nine-run fourth inning that broke open a tied ball game and led to the run-rule victory in Game 1. The Bulldogs score two runs in the first and third innings, but still found themselves in a dog fight at 4-4 after Ouachita tied the game with one run in the top of the fourth.
Abigail Schade got the hit parade started in the fourth inning with an inside the park home run that was misplayed by the Ouachita left fielder.
Taya Haney was then hit by a pitch, which led the way for
Miranda West to hit a two-run shot down the left field line.
Tori Hawk and
Ashley Jones followed with solo home runs while the next three batters –
Samantha Perry,
Samantha Householder and
Taylor Eaves – reached to loaed the bases.
Bonna Molina stepped to the plate, pinch-hitting for
Miranda McDonald, and slugged the third pitch she saw over the left field wall to make it 13-4. When the dust had cleared, the Bulldogs scored nine runs on seven hits in the inning and they held the Tigers to one run in the top of the fifth to win the game by run rule.
Taylor Eaves (5-8) picked up the win, allowing eight hits and five runs – two earned – in 5.0 innings of action.
Ouachita 10, SWOSU 7Box Score The Bulldogs were primed to sweep the doubleheader, but Ouachita had other ideas as they scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to stun SWOSU in game two.
Each team had a home run in the opening frame, the Tigers getting a two-run shot to take a 2-0 lead before
Taya Haney answered with a three-run homer to left center in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead. Ouachita regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and they extended to a 6-3 advantage with two more runs in the fourth.
Rileigh Ricken led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run, starting a four-run inning that included a two-run double from Haney as SWOSU regained the momentum and the lead at 7-6. That's where the lead would remain until the top of the seventh, when the Tigers regained the lead before SWOSU was able to record an out. Ouachita scored four runs on three hits and left two on, then set the Dawgs down in order to end the contest.
Haney accounted for most of SWOSU's offense, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, but she also took the loss in the circle after allowing six hits and five runs in 3.1 innings of work.
