Softball Suffers Sweep at Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Softball was dealt their first conference sweep in five weeks as Henderson State finished off a four-game series win over the Bulldogs on Saturday in Arkadelphia. SWOSU (13-27, 11-19 GAC) returns to action next weekend by hosting a conference series against Ouachita Baptist.

Henderson State 9, SWOSU 0 (5 inn.)
Box Score

Offensive woes continued to haunt the Bulldogs in the opener of the series as they were limited to one hit and had just three baserunners in the run-rule defeat. Tori Hawk had the Bulldogs lone hit, a double in the second inning, and SWOSU got two runners on in the fifth, one via walk and the other on an HSU error, but the game ended with both stranded.

Taya Haney (5-10) took the loss after allowing nine runs – two earned – on four hits with five walks in 3.0 innings of work. Larie Amos pitched the fourth inning and gave up just one hit.

Henderson State 7, SWOSU 5
Box Score

The Bulldogs offense had more success in the series finale as they put five runs on the board, but a four-run third by the Reddies was the difference in the game. HSU scored twice in the first inning, but SWOSU quickly answered with a solo home run and an unearned run to tie the game at 2-2 in the second. The next five runs went to the Reddies, who scored one in the second and four in the third to take command.

SWOSU fought back down the stretch with two runs in the fifth and an RBI double from Taya Haney in the sixth, but they could get no closer than the final margin of 7-5. Taylor Eaves (4-8) tossed her second complete game of the weekend, but took the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits with three strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
