Bulldogs Offense Limited in Day One Sweep at HSU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Softball managed just one run in two games on Friday against Henderson State, dropping both games of a doubleheader to open their Great American Conference series against the Reddies. The two teams will conclude their series on Saturday with another doubleheader, beginning at 1:00 pm.

Henderson State 2, SWOSU 1
Box Score

SWOSU's late game heroics from Tuesday's doubleheader carried over into the opener on Friday as the Bulldogs were down to their last out with just one hit on the day when stepped in as a pinch hitter and delivered a solo home run over the field in right center to tie the game at 1-1 and keep the Dawgs alive. Henderson State returned the favor in the bottom of the inning, however, with a two-out solo home run to walk off for the victory.

Taylor Eaves (4-7) put together a solid start in the circle, tossing just her second complete game of the season and allowing six hits and two earned runs.

Henderson State 8, SWOSU 0 (6 inn.)
Box Score

The Bulldogs offense heated up in the second game with eight hits, but it didn't translate to the scoreboard where they were held scoreless by leaving seven runners on base. Conversely, Henderson State scored one run in the first, two in the second and three in the third to build a lead that was simply insurmountable for SWOSU.

Rileigh Ricken (1-1) got the start in the circle but lasted just 1.1 innings after allowing three runs on six hits while facing nine batters. Three other pitchers saw action for SWOSU as they closed out the game. Ashley Jones kept her good day at the plate going with a 3-for-3 outing at the dish.
