WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball carried a 5-0 lead into the ninth inning of their rubber match against Southern Arkansas and held off the Muleriders to win the game 5-2 and the series 2-1. SWOSU is now 12-7 on the year and 6-3 in Great American Conference play with wins in all three of their league series.
The Bulldogs scored single runs in the first, fourth and eighth innings along with two runs in the fifth, giving them enough cushion to hold off a two-run ninth inning from the Muleriders. SWOSU's
Gunnar Cook pitched the first 8.0 innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run with 10 strikeouts, but SAU did get to
Quinton Dougherty with three hits and a run in the ninth.
Joshua Santos and
Jacob Spring each had two hits apiece and Spring had two RBI in the contest.
Joel Baxley had a sacrifice fly while
Korbin Polston and Santos accounted for the other two runs.
SWOSU concludes their eight-game home stand with a 6-2 record and they are next in action on Tuesday at Northeastern State in Tahlequah.
