WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Bulldog Baseball showed no signs of rust after being out of action all last week as they dropped Oklahoma Christian 11-5 on Tuesday afternoon at the Athletic Complex. The win is the fourth straight midweek victory for SWOSU and their 12th win in the past 15 games.
The Bulldogs had 11 hits in the game and they took advantage of three Oklahoma Christian errors to earn the win. After building a 5-0 lead in the second inning, OC would rally and tie the game in the top of the fourth, but SWOSU scored the game's final six runs over the five-plus innings and held off the Eagles.
Zach Barton finished 3-for-5, scoring three runs and batting in another from his designated hitter position.
Tanner Dearman went 2-for-4 and scored twice while
Haden Houska and
Trent Troxell also had multi-hit games.
Korbin Polston was 1-for-5 at the plate but added two RBI.
Six different pitchers took the mount for SWOSU, none pitching more than the 2.1 innings that starter
Ben Schweinfurth lasted.
Dillon Freie (1-0) earned the victory after holding OC without a hit in 1.2 innings of action while striking out two of the five batters he faced.
Jeremy Smith,
Brett McNaughton and Quinton Doughtery combined to pitch the final four innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five.
"It feels good just to get back out here and play, especially after all the rain we had last week," SWOSU Head Coach
Zack Saunders said. "Our guys were ready to compete and I like a lot of the things we did today. Lately, these midweek games have been a real boost of confidence and energy for our team heading into the weekend series and we need this one to do the same thing for us."
SWOSU (13-7) returns to action with a three-game series at Southern Nazarene in Bethany on Friday and Saturday.
