Baseball Excels in Extras to Win at Oklahoma Christian

Box Score (html)

OKLAHOMA CITY – SWOSU scored three runs in the top of the 11th inning to complete a home-and-home series sweep of Oklahoma Christian with a 10-7 victory on Tuesday evening in Oklahoma City.

The Bulldogs built a 7-1 lead in the sixth inning on the heels of a four run-sixth that included back-to-back RBI doubles from Tanner Dearman and Joshua Santos, but that would be where the offensive slowed down. Oklahoma Christian responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth, including a two-run home run and two more RBI hits that got them within one at 7-6 through six.

Both teams tightened things up on the mound from that point on, but a leadoff walk by OC in the bottom of the eighth inning led to a run on a sacrifice fly as the Eagles tied the game at 7-7. SWOSU's Jeremy Smith had to work out of a jam in the bottom of the ninth, but struck out the side to help offset a throwing error that had runners on first and third base with two outs.

After neither got anything going in the 10th, SWOSU put more runs on the board in the top of the 11th inning. CJ Faddis walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Haden Houska. Santos then stepped in and deliver a one-out RBI single to centerfield for the go-ahead run and Jacob Spring cleaned things up with a two-run double down the left field line to score Santos and Korbin Polston to make it 10-7.

Smith (1-1) earned the victory after holding OC scoreless in two innings with three strikeouts. Quinton Dougherty came on to pitch the 11th and picked up his first save of the year after working around two walks to retire the side and end the game.

SWOSU (18-10) returns to action this weekend with a three-game series against Henderson State at the SWOSU Athletic Complex in Weatherford.
