WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist jumped out to a 5-0 lead and added four runs in the eighth inning to hold off SWOSU for a 9-2 victory in game one their three-game series on Friday afternoon at the Athletic Complex.
The Bison scored on a two-run home run in the second and added three runs between the third and fourth innings as they got to SWOSU starter
Jon Chidester, who entered the game leading the conference in earned run average. Chidester (5-2) allowed eight hits and six runs – four earned – before being replaced by
Austin Hilton in the eighth inning.
Offensively, SWOSU had chances but left nine runners on base in the game. The Dawgs got on the board in the fifth inning with an RBI single from
Jacob Spring that scored
Tanner Dearman from third and
Trent Troxell hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 5-2 at that point.
SWOSU (16-9, 9-4 GAC) and Oklahoma Baptist return to the SWOSU Athletic Complex at 1:00 pm on Saturday to conclude their Great American Conference series with a doubleheader.
