Bulldogs Start Oklahoma Baptist Series with Split


SHAWNEE, Okla. – SWOSU Softball (10-22, 8-14 GAC) won the night cap against Oklahoma Baptist, earning a split in their Great American Conference doubleheader against the Lady Bison on Thursday evening in Shawnee. The two team's will conclude their series at 1:00 pm on Friday afternoon.

SWOSU scored three runs in the third inning but were unable to hold on to their 3-1 lead as Oklahoma Baptist came from behind to win the opener. The Bulldogs got an RBI on a fielder's choice by Taya Haney and a two-run single by Miranda West that scored Abigail Schade and Miranda McDonald to make it 3-1 after two and a half innings.
 
OBU scored one run in the bottom of the third before taking the lead with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the fifth inning and adding an insurance run in the sixth. Haney (4-9) took the defeat after allowing five runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings.

A two-run double by Samantha Householder in the top of the fifth inning proved to be the difference in the night cap as SWOSU held off the Bison to split the doubleheader. Kenedi Jackson got the Bulldogs on the board with an RBI infield single in the second inning that scored Householder, but OBU tied the game in the bottom of the third.
 
Abigail Schade had an RBI single in the fourth inning, but again OBU responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 2-2. The next inning was when Householder stepped to the plate and drove a double into left center, scoring Tori Hawk and Haney to put SWOSU on top 4-2 and able to withstand a run by the Lady Bison in the bottom of the inning.
 
Taylor Eaves got the start and went 3.2 innings for SWOSU, but Larie Amos (2-3) picked up the win after limiting OBU to three hits and one run in the final 3.1 innings of action.
