CHICKASHA, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball was unable to overcome an early 5-0 deficit as they saw their five-game win streak snapped in a 7-4 defeat against Science & Arts (USAO) on Tuesday afternoon in Chickasha.
First-time starter
Jeremy Smith was roughed up in the first inning, giving up five runs on four hits, including a three-run home run as USAO built a 5-0 lead after the first inning. They would run the lead to 6-0 before SWOSU got on the board with three runs in the top of the fifth, including a sacrifice fly from
Joshua Santos and an RBI single from
Joel Baxley.
USAO responded with one run in the bottom of the fifth, holding SWOSU at bay until
Tanner Dearman walked and came around to score on an RBI single from
Korbin Polston in the top of the ninth inning.
SWOSU, now 16-8 on the year, returns to action with a three-game home series against Great American Conference newcomer Oklahoma Baptist on Friday and Saturday at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
