Softball Rallies to Finish off Doubleheader Sweep of SNU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU scored seven runs in their final at-bat of the day as they concluded a doubleheader sweep of Southern Nazarene on Saturday at the Athletic Complex. The Bulldogs (8-20, 6-12 GAC) will face SNU on Sunday at 1:00 pm to conclude the series.

SWOSU 5, Southern Nazarene 2
Box Score

The Bulldogs opened the game with five runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning, getting all their runs for the game in the opening frame for a game one victory. Alex Wilson had a two-run double and Samantha Householder an RBI single in the inning, which also included one run scored on a passed ball and Tori Hawk stealing home on a double steal.

SWOSU totaled 11 hits for the game and they left nine runners on base during the game, the same number that Southern Nazarene stranded despite having just three base hits in the contest. Taylor Eaves (2-6) got the victory, throwing 6.1 innings from the circle and allowing just three hits to work around five walks and three batters hit by a pitch.

SNU scored two runs in the top of the third inning and they loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning, which was when Rileigh Ricken entered in relief of Eaves. Ricken earned her first save of the season, needing just four pitches to record the final two outs and close out the game.

Box Score

SWOSU scored five runs in the second inning and regained the lead with a xx-run sixth inning to complete the doubleheader victory with a 12-6 win in the night cap.

SNU built a 4-0 lead with two runs in both the first and second innings, but a five-run bottom of the second inning got the Dawgs back in control. Tori Hawk, Samantha Perry and Kenedi Jackson had RBI singles before Taya Haney cleaned up with a two-run double to give SWOSU the 5-4 lead. SNU scored twice in the fourth to regain the lead and that's where the score would stay until the bottom of the sixth inning.

Alex Wilson drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 6-6 and Hawk promptly unloaded the bases with a triple to dead center that made it 9-6. Perry singled, scoring Hawk and two more runs scored later in the inning thanks to a Crimson Storm error. By the time the dust cleared, SWOSU took a 12-6 lead with seven runs on five hits in the inning.

Haney (3-7) tossed a complete game in the circle, allowing seven hits and six runs – three earned – with three strikeouts in 7.0 innings.
