SWOSU led the Cotton Blossoms 5-3 after four innings in the opener, but UAM scored hit two home runs and scored four times in the top of the sixth inning to pick up the win. UAM scored to go ahead 1-0 in the second inning, but Taya Haney hit her fourth home run of the season to make it 2-1 in the third. Later in the inning, Miranda West hit an RBI single that extended the lead to 3-1 after three.

The teams traded a pair of runs in the fourth with UAM scoring twice on a two-run single before Alex Wilson slammed a two-run double off the wall in left center to push the lead back to two at 5-3. After going scoreless in the fifth, UAM hit three home runs in the top of the sixth inning, accounting for four runs as the Blossoms regained control of the contest. SWOSU had one baserunner in each of the final two innings, but were unable to push across any runs.

Miranda McDonald went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Haney was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI in the contest. Taylor Eaves (1-6) pitched well in her start, but was done in by the long ball in the sixth inning and took the loss after allowing six runs and six hits in 5.1 innings.

Box Score

The Bulldogs hit three more home runs, scoring multiple runs in the second, third and fourth innings to build their lead and ending the game via run-rule on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth. UAM again scored first, with a solo homer to lead off the second inning but SWOSU quickly answered.

Ashley Jones stepped in to lead off the bottom of the third and provided the equalizer with a solo shot to right center. Three batters later, Tori Hawk slammed her fourth home run of the season, a two-run moonshot down the left field line that stayed fair and put SWOSU up 3-1. The Dawgs added to that lead in the third inning after Jones was hit by a pitch and Alex Wilson brought her home on her second round tripper of the year as SWOSU grew their lead to 5-1 after three.

UAM threatened in the fourth inning, but left the bases loaded, setting the stage for SWOSU to break that game completely open. Samantha Householder singled and advanced to second base, allowing her to score on an RBI double from Emily Garcia. Kenedi Jackson followed that with an RBI groundout that scored Garcia and Miranda McDonald came in to score on an RBI single from Haney that made it 8-1 in the fourth.

SWOSU had a chance to end the game by run-rule in the fifth inning, but stranded two runners on base. That mistake was not duplicated in the sixth. Haney led off the inning with a double off the left field wall and pinch runner Abigail Schade moved to third on a fly out from Jones. UAM intentionally walked Wilson and Miranda West to load the bases, a move that backfired when an 0-2 pitch ran inside and hit Tori Hawk, who earned the walk off RBI.

Haney (3-7) was the lone Bulldog with two hits in the game, while Hawk had three RBI and Wilson added two. Haney also picked up the victory after tossing her fifth complete game of the season, allowing five hits and one earned run in 6.0 innings of work.
